Anode Definition:

Anode Explanation:

To understand the concept of anode, we can consider a polarized electrical circuit. The electrode through which current flows in through an outside circuit is called anode. In a device that consumes electricity, Anode is said to be the positive electrode as it releases electrons. On the other hand if we consider a device that produces power, anode is said to be the negative terminal because the flow of electrons is reversed in this case. We can also say that anode is the electrode where oxidation takes place. A simple example is electrolysis of water. A positively charged platinum electrode where H2 gas is oxidized to H+ ions is the anode.
