A gerund is the "-ing" form of a verb when it functions grammatically as a noun in a sentence. Gerunds are identical in appearance to present participles, but they are not used to form tenses of the verb or provide adjectival information.

Gerunds are the words ending with 'ing' they are verb but act as a noun. We can easily pick gerunds as these words are having tail of ing a the end of word. This is very simple term as they can be used in every situation. Unlike a normal noun, a gerund maintains some verb-like properties.
