2x2 Design Explanation:

A factorial design is a type of designed experiment that involves two or more variables with discrete levels. All possible combinations of the factor levels are tested. The effect of different factor level combinations on the outcome or result is checked using factorial design. Factorial designs are very helpful in process improvement. A type of factorial design having ?k? factors each having two levels is called 2^k factorial design as the total runs required are calculated as 2^k. The simplest form of 2^k factorial design is 2^2 design. 2^2 factorial design means that two factors are involved each having 2 levels. The number of runs for the experiment are calculated by 2^2=4.
