Managing Quality: Integrating the Supply Chain by S. Thomas Foster
Breakthrough Explanation:
Breakthrough is a process-related activity which takes into account large improvements made to process by taking care of non-random problems in the process. When a process is planned, there are chances of some variations in it. These variations can be large sometimes which have to be eliminated. When large non-random variations in a process are permanently removed by allocating resources to it, great improvements are guaranteed. Breakthrough improvements can be applied to any key business area. These improvements aid in providing the highest economic returns. For performing breakthrough improvement, usually cross-functional teams are required in order to identify the issues in various functions at the same time so that large improvements can be made.
