Adrenal glands Notes:

The adrenal glands are an example of endocrine glands. They produce a variety of hormones including adrenaline and also steroids like cortisol. They are found above the kidneys. Each gland has an inner medulla and an outer cortex which produces steroid hormones. A number of endocrine diseases involve malfunction of the adrenal gland. Overproduction of cortisol leads to a disease called the cushing's syndrome, while inadequate production is associated with a disorder called addison's disease.
