Chromatic Adaptation Explanation:

According to most recent researches in the field of microbiology, a large number of bacterial species (e.g. Cyanobacteria) are capable of responding to many different light colors. This process is called "Chromatic Adaptation" (CA). It requires the cyanobacteria to measure the precise ratios of specific light colors in their environment, which is a task performed by the bilins in their phytochrome photoreceptors, that allows photon capture between the blue and red regions of the spectrum that are not efficiently trapped by chlorophyll. As a result such bacteria adapt to habitats like freshwater or marine environments, where longer wavelength (red) light is absorbed at the surface of water column, while in the deeper areas, green and blue light predominate.
